Shree Shaligram Details
About the Shaligram: The Shaligram shila comes from one river on Earth and no other: the Gandaki, flowing down from the Himalayas of Nepal. Tradition holds these dark stones, marked with the lines of the chakra, to be Bhagwan Vishnu himself in svarup, not a murti of him but his own presence. This is why the shastras place the Shaligram above all other forms of home worship: it needs no pran pratishtha, no installation rites. Where the shila is, Vishnu is.
Keeping a Shaligram is a seva, and a gentle one. A daily bath of jal, a tulsi leaf, which is dearest to Vishnu Ji of all offerings, a moment of dhyan, and the home holds the preserver's presence through the generations, for Shaligrams are passed from parent to child as the most sacred of inheritances.
