Deity: Goddess Savitri (Savitri Mata) and the sacred Vat (banyan) tree

About the Puja: This vrat is observed by married women across India for the long life and well-being of their husbands. The story behind it is one of the most loved in Hindu tradition. Savitri's husband Satyavan was destined to die young. When Yama, the lord of death, came to take him, Savitri followed them with such unwavering devotion that Yama granted her boon after boon. Finally, she asked for Satyavan's life back. Yama, bound by his own words, returned her husband.

The Vat tree is sacred because Satyavan died at its foot, and was brought back to life there. Our verified Vedic priests perform the puja under a sacred Vat tree. The Savitri Vrat Katha is read aloud. Offerings of red threads, sweets, and flowers are made to the tree, with prayers for the husband's long life. Women circle the Vat tree as part of the vrat, tying red threads as they go. Muhurat is taken fresh from the Panchang. Book Vat Savitri Vrat Katha and Puja with us, and we handle the full vidhi.
