Vindhyavasini temple is one of the most respected Shakti Peeth in India. Vindhyavasini is the kind and benevolent side of Goddess Durga. Vindhyachal is the place which Devi had herself chosen to be here. She is popularly known as Kajala Devi by her devotees. Legend has it that Vindhyavasini was born at the time of birth of Lord Krishna and that Vasudev has replaced Krishna with her who was born to Nanda-Yashoda. Once Kansa came to kill her, she slipped from his hand and turned into Devi and cursed Kansa, who was later killed by Lord Krishna for his evil deeds.
Millions of devotees of Devi Durga come here to seek her blessings and during Navratri it is hugely crowded. A Kajali competition is held during the Jyestha month.
Visitors can also visit the Astabhuja temple which is about 3 kms away from this temple and also another temple of Kali, Kali Khoh temple is situated nearby which followers come to see.
Rituals and Prasad:
Trikona Parikrama or the circumambulation of the temple is one of the religious practice followed by the devotees. Devotees do the Parikrama of the three temples here.
Vindhyavasini temple and the other two temples Kali Khoh temple, AshtaBhuja temple which are situated nearby. Devotees visit all the three temples and circumambulate to fulfill their wishes.
