ABOUT Puja: Lakshmi puja is celebrated on the third day of Diwali and is one of the most revered festivals on India and Nepal. The third day of Diwali is Amavasya and this puja is performed during the Pradosh kal or the evening time. This is the time when sun passes the constellation Libra and therefore this period represents balance. Goddess Lakshmi visits the house which is cleanest and showers her blessings and give wealth and prosperity. In Lakshmi puja five deities are worshiped- Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped in three forms- Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali and Lord Kuber.
SIGNIFICANCE & PURPOSE: Goddess Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth; hence this puja is performed by the adherents on the third day of Diwali which is the day of Amavasya. Goddess Lakshmi brings wealth and prosperity to humanity; hence this is an important puja during the festival of Diwali. Lakshmi is wife of Lord Vishnu and people show their reverence by placing Diya inside as well and outside their homes. This puja is performed during the Pradosh kal as it is observed as the most auspicious time and wealth stays in the homes.
